I am finally a horse owner again! I haven't been this excited about anything in a long time, so I've decided to create a blog so I can share my experiences with anyone who cares to read about them. It should be interesting, considering I really haven't been around horses much since about 10 years ago when Leslie and I sold our first horses, Starbuck (Buck) and Bailey. That was after spending most of our teenage lives out at the stable.
This is my new horse, Rocky. He's a Welsh Pony / Thoroughbred gelding, and he's around 17 years old. His coat color is Red Roan (also called Strawberry Roan) and he's got a blaze on his face and a sock on each of his hind legs. At this point, I don't know exactly how big he is, but I'm thinking he's probably 14.1 or 14.2 hands high. So he's not very tall, but he is plenty stocky.
I didn't get any photos of him with all the tack on, but I did saddle him up today and ride him in the indoor arena. He hasn't really been ridden in 5 years or so, which means that he's as rusty as I am. I think that once we get to know each other, he will be a great horse for me. At least I hope so!!!
In this picture, you can see that Rocky (like many ponies) is what you'd call an "easy-keeper". Since he hasn't been used much, he's pretty chubby. I'm hoping that this will be one of my before photos. My plan is to have some afters once I have been working with him for a while. It will be fun to see how much he changes (in both attitude and appearance).
I will try to post anytime I get some new pictures or if anything exciting happens in my new world of horses. I'm sure I'll be camera crazy for the 1st few weeks/months though, so it shouldn't be a problem to get some cute photos.

I'm so happy that you finally were able to get a horse. It seems like the only thing that has really made you happy doing. I don't know how he is with kids but I know that the girls would love to see him. Congratulations!
Andrea - I would really like for you to bring the girls to see him. He's VERY friendly and he loves getting treats. Maybe we could even try a pony ride if I lead him around - he's pretty mellow.
Bonnie, I am so excited that you have a horse again, I am sure Audrey would love to come out and check out Rocky sometime too.
